has anyone does this box? I went up with some friends and our kids and we
were totally stumped! the markings on the trees were few and far between,,,the
clues were a little vague...any help with this one? we were so frustrated by the
time we left. the workers were of no help either...we asked where are the
blue trails? he was "I don't know"...good going...

I was just looking at these clues on Monday. They didn't seem to
complicated to me, but I haven't actually gone out to look for it.

yes, at first it seemed easy, but then as y ou went further, it was harder
because the trails are not marked,,,let me know how you do, because I hate not
finding a box!

No, if this is the same box I was looking at, it stands for Mount -
Mount Tom.

I looked at the clues for this and have a couple of suggestions.
First, did you get a trail map? The employees might not have known
which was the "blue trail" if the trail actually has a formal name.
I've found that some parks are not as "diligent" as others in
keeping the trails blazed, usually due to a lack of volunteers to do
the work.
Did you ask a work crew or a ranger for directions? Work/landscaping
crews would be unlikely to know where the specific trails are. You'd
need to make sure you found a ranger or a knowledgeable volunteer
when asking directions.
The box was planted a while back. There is every chance that some of
the markers and landmarks have disappeared due to weather/human
interference. The clues don't seem particularly vague to me; seemed
fairly standard walk-in-the-woods LBing clues to me.
I'm in NC so I can't really give you any further insight. E-mail the
placer through LbNA and ask if they've had any recent reports on
this one.

And something else that sometimes happens is that not all maps are created
equal. There's a county forest preserve near me which has a paper trail map
they have available at the info kiosk in the preserve. It doesn't have the
names of the trails on it. If a person goes online and prints out a copy of
their online map, the map shows the trail names. So sometimes, the more
maps, the better. Don't leave home without 'em. :-)

I found it in July '05. If I recall correctly it wasn't a horribly
long walk. We had 4 people watching for clues and it was exactly where
it should have been.

I found an online trail map when I looked up the park--Mt. Tom State
Reservation, I believe. It's a .gif file so I'm not sure how it would
print. Comparing the map to the clues though, the hunt looks fairly
straightforward--blue blazes or no. The map had all the trail names
and creek names as mentioned in the clues.

looking forward to searching for this box
Mt Tom used to be a favorite hang gliding site of ours
before the gliders started flying better and better
and we got high enough to interfere with landing path for airport
and this is only about 1 1/2 hour drive for us
